I am delighted to be here at Covenant. This congregation has a special place in the Stoughton community and I am excited to be apart of it. I believe in God’s transforming power that has the ability to make greatness of all us. God does this out of deep expressions of love for creation and all of humanity. The care of God comes through as the church extends itself in ways that Jesus taught us. We are people on a journey, and God’s grace is abundant. This is our comfort and hope.
I have always enjoyed education. I studied Religion at Lakeland University in Sheboygan, went to seminary at Eden Seminary in St. Louis, and obtained a Doctor of Ministry at McCormick Seminary in Chicago. I highly value and strive to be a life long learner.
I am married to Amy Elvekrog and together we have three children, Meredith, Alexander and Samuel. I have lived in Stoughton for 12 years, but grew up in Kiel WI on a dairy farm. I enjoy spending time with my family, and we enjoy hiking, biking, travel, and riding scooters around town. If you would ask me to name a dream, it would be to live self-sustaining on a piece of land, in a Yurt for a few years.
Minister of Faith Development
Mark has been serving at Covenant since 2004, when he was certified as a Youth Minister by the Youth and Family Institute at Wartburg Seminary. His primary areas of focus are Youth and Family ministry as well as Christian Education, but he is also engaged in the area of worship as one of the music leaders for Covenant’s Saturday evening service. Mark is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Diaconal Ministry through the Distributed Learning track at Wartburg Seminary. See Chris’ biography for Mark’s family news (they are similar!). In his free time, Mark enjoys building faith chests, and basically any home improvement projects – except painting. Mark also walks 15,000 steps per day, so you may not find him at his desk very often.
